Go to Accounts --> Settings --> Contact Info, and you'll see what's visible only to your connections, and what's visible to everybody on Linked In. If you do include your phone number on your profile, limit the Linked In members who can see it. It's set to "all Linked In members" by default, but you can change it to people in your 1st and 2nd degree network (and the people they're connected to), or to 1st degree connections only.
